HONOR has confirmed that the new Magic V5 foldable smartphone will launch in Malaysia on 15 July 2025. As the latest foldable flagship, its key feature is its 8.8mm of thickness (0.4mm less than its predecessor), which means HONOR once again retains the title of world’s thinnest foldable.

For context, the Magic V5 is claimed to be comparable in thickness to a 50 sen coin, or three credit cards stacked; still, within the chassis you’ll find silicon-carbon batteries with combined capacity of 5,820mAh, while charging is done via 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. There’s also a dedicated E2 chip onboard designed to optimize battery life in demanding workloads through power-saving algorithms.
In terms of structural durability, the inner screen is reinforced with non-Newtonian fluid (which becomes firm when you apply large amounts of force) to absorb impact and increase drop resistance; there’s even an AI-powered foreign object detection feature that detects particles (as small as 0.8mm) which could damage the inner screen. The outer screen uses HONOR’s Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield technology, while the back casing is constructed with carbon fiber, which offers increased stiffness and weight reduction to contribute to its 217g minimum weight.
The Magic V5’s hinge mechanism is also upgraded: during the media event last week, this new iteration (dubbed Super Steel Hinge) was demonstrated to endure weights up to 35kg; HONOR says the hinge can last up to 500,000 folds, which is equivalent to over 13 years of use at 100 folds per day. The device also carries IP58/IP59 ratings for water and dust resistance.
Meanwhile, the camera module includes a 64MP periscope telephoto camera with “up to 100x digital zoom,” though it’s unclear how much of that involves optical magnification. Of course, you do get several AI features such as AI Super Zoom and AI Enhanced Portrait, along with several AI-powered editing tools like AI Cutout, AI Eraser, AI Outpainting, and AI Upscale.
The official launch event for the HONOR Magic V5 will be streamed live on HONOR Malaysia’s Facebook page at 2 PM on 15 July 2025 – you can expect information like full specifications, pricing and promotional bundles to be announced during the event.
