Philips set a new Malaysia Book of Records title at the Harvey Norman Mid Valley KL Flagship Store for ironing the highest number of school shirts within 60 minutes, completing 49 shirts using its PerfectCare Steam Generator Iron. According to the company, the new appliance is designed to reduce average ironing time by up to half compared to conventional irons, hence the record attempt was made to prove the point.
Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator Breaks New Record
The Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator Iron (8000 series) has a steam rate of 215g per minute, with some models reaching a steam boost of 750g to 850g. It is designed for lightweight use in both horizontal and vertical positions, and dispenses steam immediately during movement without requiring a wait time. The OptimalTemp technology allows creases to be smoothed with a single glide without risk of burning fabric (“zero burns guaranteed”, in its words), and the iron also features a detachable 1.4-liter water tank, plus automatic switch-off after four minutes of inactivity.
Patt Sue-Ann, Commercial Director of Philips Domestic Appliances Malaysia, said the internal team conducted timed trials while ironing school uniforms ahead of the record attempt, noting the range of uniform types worn across Malaysian schools, including variations between boys’ and girls’ uniforms, pinafores, baju kurung with hijabs, and prefect blazers and ties. For the purpose of the record attempt, Philips focused specifically on short-sleeved shirts worn by boys and girls.
The record attempt was carried out by the designated “Ironman” – Nik Erwan Nik Roseli, a creative consultant and stylist who has worked with brands including Uniqlo and Rizman Ruzaini, and styled artists including Merqeen, Hael Husaini and Shiha Zikir. Malaysia Book of Records spokesperson Megat Faris Megat Muzzafar Shah oversaw and assessed the attempt before confirming the record.
