A global study conducted by Kaspersky’s Internal Research Center found that organizations worldwide and across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region increasingly regard IT security capabilities as delivering value beyond protection against cyber threats.
The study surveyed 1,800 IT and cybersecurity decision-makers and specialists across 18 countries, spanning industries including IT, manufacturing, finance, retail and wholesale. According to the study, cybersecurity is increasingly viewed as a “foundation for innovation rather than merely a protective barrier.”
Kaspersky: Almost Everyone Agrees Cybersecurity Is Essential
32% of respondents says the primary benefit of cybersecurity enhancements comes down to data protection, in which 39% of Malaysian organizations agree. Other country-level figures included 32% in India and Thailand, 31% in Vietnam, 30% in China and 28% in Indonesia. Secondly, operational efficiency is another key consideration, Inoted by 26% of APAC respondents. By country, this figure stood at 29% in China, 27% in Malaysia, 26% in Indonesia and Vietnam, 24% in Thailand and 23% in India.
The ability to prevent attacks rather than respond to their aftermath was cited by 24% of APAC respondents overall, including 29% in Malaysia, 27% in Thailand and Indonesia, 22% in Vietnam and India, and 17% in China. The study also found that firms without recent security incidents were more likely to associate cybersecurity with operational efficiency and regulatory compliance, while firms that experienced incidents placed greater emphasis on technology adoption and risk reduction.
As the corporate world would tell you, time is money, and any cybersecurity incident could easily mean downtime, which means lost profits and unnecessary expenditures, among other things. So it’s no surprise that organizations are taking cybersecurity very seriously these days, especially in a time when AI is starting to be actively involved in new threats.
