God of War Laufey are now open for pre-orders on the PlayStation Store and at participating retailers, with the game set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 16 February 2027. Developer Santa Monica Studio has also revealed new details on protagonist Faye’s combat abilities, headlined by the introduction of the Serpent Bow.
Faye’s Serpent Bow Combat Mechanics
The Serpent Bow is an enchanted weapon that shifts from dormant to notched at high speed, letting Faye weave arrow strikes fluidly into her existing attacks. The bow supports two distinct firing modes depending on how far the aim trigger is pressed.
A full press activates Precision Mode, giving Faye improved aim and greater draw distance. Targeting specific points on an enemy’s body in this mode can impair their movement or attacks. Players can also charge the bow in this stance to stack up to five arrows for a simultaneous volley, which pairs well with the companion character Phranque’s ability to launch enemies into the air.
A half press switches to Hip-Fire Mode, a more mobile stance that trades precision for speed. In this mode, Faye can unleash a cluster of arrows at close range for high burst damage. The quick-fire nature of hip-fire also allows players to juggle airborne enemies and extend combo chains across weapon switches.
Beyond the two fire modes, the Serpent Bow supports multiple arrow types including rapid fire, explosive, and multi-target variants. Players can further customize the bow by equipping different Scales, each of which alters the weapon’s appearance and grants a unique gameplay perk. The Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, are one such example. Unlockable skills provide additional ways to expand the bow’s capabilities over the course of the game.
Beyond the Serpent Bow, God of War Laufey features a broader gear system built around Faye’s role as a warrior in the Everywhen, the game’s afterlife-of-the-gods setting. Armor sets carry unique perks, stats, and visual designs. Players can also customize her Blade (a sword element), Bow Scales, and Catalysts, powerful artifacts that channel the magic of the Everywhen, each with distinct effects suited to different playstyles.

Players who pre-order the Standard Edition (RM299) will receive the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance, and an in-game resource pack; for physical Standard Edition copies, these items will be delivered via a download code and require an internet connection and a PlayStation account to redeem.
The Digital Deluxe Edition (RM339) expands on this with the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, Dark Alchemy Catalyst, an in-game resource pack, a Digital Mini Artbook, and the Official God of War Laufey Digital Soundtrack. All in-game items from both editions are unlocked via story progression.
