Malaysia Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay) to improve the travel booking experience for Chinese travelers. The partnership centers on supporting the launch and adoption of a planned Weixin Mini Program that will bring destination content, promotional offers, and booking services together within the Weixin ecosystem.

The MoU was signed by Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airline Business from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), and Ben Yang, Managing Director of Weixin Pay, Southeast Asia, North America and LATAM.

The new agreement builds on that foundation by coordinating joint go-to-market campaigns to drive launch and user adoption of the planned Mini Program. Promotional and engagement initiatives will run across Weixin Pay, Channels, Official Accounts, and social sharing features, supported by Malaysia Airlines’ own marketing channels; the campaigns are intended to strengthen brand visibility, expand audience reach, and improve booking conversion for both parties.

For Chinese travelers, the collaboration aims to create a more connected experience from destination discovery through to booking and payment, all within a platform they already use daily. Malaysia Airlines currently serves nine points in Greater China and the wider region: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Changsha, Hong Kong, and Taipei. The planned Weixin Mini Program will act as an additional digital gateway to this network.

Connectivity between China and Malaysia is also set to grow through sister airline Firefly, which plans to introduce daily Kuala Lumpur to Kunming services, subject to regulatory approval.
