Samsung unveiled their new 850 SSD series line up with a new 2TB capacity equipped with Samsung’s 3D Vertical NAND (V-NAND) chip. For the uninitiated, here’s a little information about the V-NAND, it’s a technology developed exclusively by Samsung that improves the characteristics of NAND without changing node process. Samsung spent years on this technology and they made it by going vertical — up to 32 layers — instead of going horizontal as usual. This design results in higher density storage, better power efficiency, speed and durability at the same old 40nm process.

On this new 2TB Samsung 850 SSD, they changed some components. This time it will be using an upgraded high-performance MHX controller that supports 2TB capacity and four 20nm-class process technology-based 4Gb LPDDR3 DRAM chips, the 2TB 850 family provides industry-leading performance and power efficiency.

Samsung provides the 2TB 850 PRO with a 10-year warranty or 300 terabytes written (TBW), and the 2TB 850 EVO with a five-year warranty or 150 TBW. About the price, the Samsung 850 Pro 2TB starts at USD 999 and the Samsung 850 Evo 2TB at USD 799. Converted the currency to Malaysian Ringgit, it’s just about over RM 3000.

Pokdepinion : 2TB SSD for consumer, priced at over RM3000, is not a good investment for the average Malaysian PC gamers. If they really need huge SSD capacities for game storage, I suggest you guys to get the economical Transcend SSD, I know it only has a 100MB/s write speed, but for gaming read speeds are more important. Anyhow I won’t stop you guys from getting this, it’s your money after all and if you think that you need this, grab it.
