ASUS Announces New Intel Core Ultra-Powered Zenbook 14 OLED Laptop

If you’re reading this, Intel has just officially debuted the Core Ultra processors (codename Meteor Lake) – and ASUS has announced its very first entry for the next generation CPU from Team Blue. The Intel Core Ultra chip will first find its way into the upcoming Zenbook 14 OLED (model number UX3405).

According to the laptop maker, the new laptop will be Intel Evo Edition certified: which means it adheres to some of the standards stipulated by Intel to ensure best usage experiences. These include chassis thickness, displays, interface, and more – and on that end, ASUS has designed the new Zenbook with just 14.9mm of thickness (which qualifies for the Evo standard as it requires sub-15mm thickness). It’s also very lightweight, tipping the scales at just 1.2kg.

While ASUS didn’t specify which particular Core Ultra chip it’s using, it does mention the existence of Intel Arc graphics. It’s unclear if this points to a discrete Arc A-series GPU, or rather, the new Xe-LPG-based integrated GPU found on some of the higher-end Core Ultra models. In any case, it’ll be responsible for powering the 3K 120Hz OLED panel that ASUS branded as ‘Lumina OLED display’.

Elsewhere, there’s also Windows Hello facial recognition-based login, new ‘super-linear’ speakers, and the new ‘quiet’ ErgoSense keyboard. More dampers for reduced typing noise? That remains to be seen – as that can affect the typing feel as well, so we’ll have to try it to know. Additionally, the chassis is also designed around the principles of sustainability, with recycled and recyclable materials in the mix.

ASUS Malaysia says the laptop will be brought into Malaysia “very, very soon” (word by word) – so soon that they claim it’ll be the first-ever (or at least among the very first) Core Ultra laptop to be released in the country. We could be seeing it probably within this month, if they’re indeed soon enough.
