We now have the first sighting of the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite/Plus-powered laptop in the form of this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, as discovered by @_h0x0d_ on X (Twitter). From what we can tell, this is a distinct chassis designed for this model – usually OEMs share chassis designs across Intel and AMD variants to save on production costs.

But what’s the deal with Qualcomm’s chips anyway? Here’s why: The Windows PC market has long been ruled by two chipmakers – AMD and Intel – both producing x86-based processors. Since Apple transitioned its products to the ARM-based M-series SoCs, these products demonstrated a huge increase in power efficiency. Qualcomm, as the rival of Apple in the smartphone world, is poised to represent the best of ARM-based laptops on the Windows side.

However, the photos are the only thing we know so far. The user has not specified its specs, apart from the name: “Yoga Slim 7 14(.5) 2024 Snapdragon Edition”. We’ll have to assume that this laptop may arrive with the higher-end Snapdragon X Elite SoC given its designation, and the chipmaker likely wants its flagship products out of the production line first to make itself known in the PC market.

Should this arrive in the market, Lenovo will be able to offer three flavors for its Yoga Slim 7 lineup – the Intel Core Ultra-powered Yoga Slim 7i (Gen 9), the AMD-powered Yoga Slim 7 (Gen 8), and the Qualcomm-powered Snapdragon Edition as seen here. Given that this has been revealed in the wild, one can expect more details to arrive in the coming months – possibly even on Computex slated this June.
