According to the latest data from Counterpoint Research, Apple’s iPhone 15 was the world’s best-selling smartphone in Q3 2024, securing the top spot in global smartphone sales. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro also performed exceptionally, ranking second and third, respectively. Despite Apple’s dominance, Samsung claimed more spots in the top 10, largely due to the popularity of its budget-friendly Galaxy A series. The Galaxy S24 rounded out the top 10, though it was outpaced by Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C.

Shifts in Consumer Demand Towards Premium Smartphones

The top 10 smartphones in Q3 collectively accounted for an impressive 19% of total global sales during the September quarter. A noticeable trend emerges as consumers, even in emerging markets, show increasing interest in premium devices. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, in particular, have benefited from accessible trade-in programs and financing options, driving strong growth outside traditional Apple markets.

Samsung and Xiaomi Capture Budget-Segment Demand

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 stands out as the first Galaxy S-series device to enter the Q3 top 10 rankings since 2018, highlighting renewed interest in Samsung’s premium lineup. Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C capitalized on the popularity of its predecessor, the Redmi 12C, offering budget-conscious consumers competitive specs that outperform many rivals in its price range.

Overall, this quarter’s data reflects shifting consumer preferences, with both high-end and budget devices gaining traction worldwide.

Pokdepinion: I actually thought the top 5 would be a bit more spread out among the brands, though their respective best-selling models were to be expected. I’m hoping to see the shift giving wildly different results, not in this quarter but at least somewhere in the middle of 2025.
