Samsung Aims to Sell 15 Million Foldable Phones in 2023: Dominance in the Foldable Market
Samsung has recently revealed its ambitious plans for the foldable phone market. TM Roh, the head of Samsung’s mobile division, disclosed that the company sold nearly 10 million foldable phones last year, with the Galaxy Z Flip4 accounting for 60% of the sales and the Z Fold4 making up the remaining 40%. Encouraged by this success, Samsung has set a lofty target of selling 50% more foldable phones in 2023.
Samsung Aims to Sell 15 Million Foldable Phones in 2023
The company aims to achieve approximately 15 million sales, a figure that will further cement Samsung’s position as the dominant player in the foldable market. Analysts from Trendforce predict that a total of 18 million foldable devices will be shipped this year, while IDC goes even further, projecting that the number will exceed 20 million. If these projections hold true, it would mean that three-quarters of all foldables sold in 2023 will be Samsung Galaxy devices.
Samsung’s 2022 models witnessed a fairly even split between the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4. However, TM Roh expects that this year, the Galaxy Z Flip5 will lead the sales race, with the gap between the Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 becoming more pronounced, particularly in the company’s home market of Korea.
In a recent interview, TM Roh expressed his anticipation that one out of every three Galaxy flagships sold in South Korea will be a Z foldable. On a global scale, he believes that “foldable sales will exceed 20% of all Galaxy flagships.”
Looking ahead, the Korean giant aims to surpass the Galaxy S series with its Galaxy Z foldables by 2025, according to last year’s statement by the head of the mobile division. If Samsung can maintain the current pace of growth for the Z series, the 2025 target appears achievable. The upcoming year will provide a clearer picture of Samsung’s progress towards this goal.

Pokdepinion: For this year, I’m very certain it’s possible to push the numbers further since the focus is more on the Flip5. The price is more accessible, and it has the upgrade that everyone wanted for a few years now.
