Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Unboxing and First Impressions
We got our hands on the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra but before we publish the review, have a taste of it with our unboxing and first impressions.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Unboxing
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a similar box to its predecessor, except this time it’s a picture of the device itself instead of symbols depicting the model. It’s a slim black box with no patterns and with the model name listed on the bottom. As you might have expected, the reason it’s slim is because it lacks a charger. Inside the box, you can find the following items:
- USB-C to USB-C cable
- SIM ejector pin
- Quick Start Guide
- Regional Lock Guide
- Samsung Pay leaflet
- Warranty card
- The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra itself
First Impressions
For our review unit, we received the Lavender colour option, which we feel looks the best among the default colour options. Black looks too bland, green isn’t as attractive as previous iterations and cream could be better. If you purchase it from the official Samsung online store, the Sky Blue and Graphite colours are easily the most attractive options.
The rear has a matte finish, which is great because it’s not a fingerprint magnet and it’s easier to grip. Just like its predecessor, the rear cameras do not have a housing, so they protrude outwards individually, likely to shave some weight off. I wished the contour cut camera housing design made a return but I suppose for innovation, might be better to look for a new design instead.

Flip it over and you will see its glorious 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz as well as punchhole camera cutout. At first glance, it looks the same as the S22 Ultra but when you hold it, it suddenly feels different. As it turns out, the part where the screen starts to curve is closer to the edge, giving you more flat surface to use, and it’s a good change since it’s easier to use without accidentally touching the edge features.
Building off its predecessor’s use of chip, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the newest flagship chip around with a lot of power to go around. My primary worry is not about the performance but rather the thermals. We will find out more on that once we’re done benchmarking the device. For now, check out its full specifications right below here:
