vivo Retains Market Share Leadership In China In Q2 2023, With 11.4 Million Units Sold
Market research firm Canalys has published the shipment data in China’s smartphone markets in the latest quarter (Q2 2023), which points to a slightly downward trend overall in the country due to economic challenges and supply chain concerns. The last quarter sees a total of 64.3 million smartphones shipped, down 5% from last year (Q2 2022) which has 67.4 million units shipped.
Among the 64.3 million units shipped last quarter, vivo retains the lead in China’s smartphone market albeit sees its lead effectively equalized by its sister brand under BBK Electronics – Oppo, with 11.4 millions units shipped (18% market share) for both brands (though Oppo’s data includes its own subsidiary, OnePlus).
Apple and HONOR follows behind with 10.4 and 10.3 million smartphones sold respectively (both 16%), with the former being the only company to see an increase in market share in the top five companies in the list, seeing an additional half a million units shipped year-over-year (YoY). HONOR and Xiaomi are then subsequently pushed down one place lower in the ranking, with the latter shipping 8.6 million units occupying 13% of total shipments in China last quarter.
Canalys analyst Amber Liu said that consumers are more willing to spend more on high-quality products, as reflected with the ASP (average selling price) in China surpassing $450, and predicts that such trend will continue in the foreseeable future. In a press statement, vivo says this report confirms the company’s “unwavering dedication to providing its users with services that are of the highest quality and value.”
Pokdepinion: It’s likely that smartphone shipments will continue to shrink as phones are nearing their limits in terms of innovations, and people are more likely to keep their phones for longer.
