If you own a Google Pixel with Tensor chip on it: do not view this 4K HDR clip of the movie named ‘Alien’ (actually now you can – it has been fixed since).

A YouTube Video Managed to Crash Some Google Pixel Phones

First spotted by Reddit user u/OGPixel5 – the user noticed their Google Pixel 7 Pro somehow crashed when the video in question is displayed in YouTube. It’s not a fluke – many users down the thread has tried it themselves and sees the same crash. However, it’s non-destructive: while the first reboot may cause the cellular feature to not work, a second reboot will get it back up and running.

It’s not known what exactly caused the crash, but some have speculated it could be a bug related to color space values – which had happened before to a random wallpaper that can crash most Android devices due to incorrect sRGB color conversions. All the affected phones are Google Tensor-powered, of which are based on Samsung’s in-house Exynos chips. That being said, no Samsung device powered by Exynos chips has been reported with such incidents so far.

The bug has apparently been fixed ever since, likely from a remote fix on Google’s side. Ars Technica reported no issues found when they played the clip in their Pixel phones, and users have confirmed that the issue has disappeared.

Pokdepinion: That’s not very reassuring given how random these bugs are, isn’t it?
