Rakuten Kobo Brings Colors For The First Time To Its Latest E-Readers
Rakuten Kobo is joining the color-based E Ink e-reader market with two new models – the Kobo Libra Color and the Kobo Clara Color. Both e-readers utilize the Kaleido 3 display from E Ink (fun fact: it’s a company name that makes, you guessed it, E Ink displays), and are rated for IPX8 ingress protection.
Starting with the Kobo Libra Color, this e-reader is the company’s first 7-inch model to support Google Drive and Dropbox, on top of 32GB onboard storage. For ergonomics, Kobo includes physical page turn buttons and landscape mode, and the battery is rated for up to 40 days. It also supports Kobo Stylus 2, sold separately for RM319. As for the e-reader itself, the asking price is RM1,079.
The cheaper Kobo Clara Color – at RM779 – uses the smaller 6-inch form factor instead. This smaller model offers 16GB of onboard storage, and a battery life rated for 53 days. Alongside the color-based model, Kobo is also introducing the monochrome Kobo Clara BW (at RM679), which shares the same specs as its color counterpart.
Pre-orders for all three models are now available, with general availability starting April 30, 2024.
Pokdepinion: Color e-readers are steadily getting more mainstream, which is a good thing.
