Sony Malaysia announces today its BRAVIA line of smart TVs will now come with Zoom conferencing built into the TV, provided that it supports BRAVIA CAM (which includes X95L, A80L, X90L, X85L, X80L, X95K, A90K, A80K, X90K, X85K, X80K).

The company touts itself  as the first TV maker to support the Zoom for TV app on Google Play Store, which allows for features such as presence detection to “adjust sound and picture settings” depending on where the person sits in front of the panel. The same feature found on PC client such as screen sharing and various collaboration will also be carried over to the TV version of the app.

Shusuke Tomonaga, Head of BRAVIA TV Product Design, Product Technology Center, Sony Corporation, says: “This partnership will make it possible for our customers to enjoy more realistic video communication on a large TV screen in the living room, enabling them to be more connected with the people they care about, whether they are working from home, learning remotely, or just catching up with friends and family.”

Whether you like this new feature or otherwise – perhaps there’s no escaping that next meeting your boss just scheduled ahead. At least your video conferencing setup could now be fancier with the big screens. This feature rollout is now available in “select countries” starting this month (July 2023), which includes Malaysia.

Pokdepinion: Safe to say it’s more intended for bosses – imagine having a meeting while sitting in your living room’s couch though.
