The folks over at Nintendo has officially announced its financial results, for the three months between 1st April 2018 and 30th June 2018, today. As usual, this means that we received an update on shipments for both the Nintendo Switch and their handheld 3DS. As you may imagine, a quite a few new Switch units have found their way to retailers worldwide during the quarter.

As you can see in the infographic at the top of this post, lifetime shipments for the Nintendo Switch reached 19.67 million units. On the other hand, the 3DS family (which also includes 2DS and New 2DS XL) reached 72.89 million units shipped. Of course, we also get an update in software sales for both platforms.

This means that 1.88 million Switch units have been shipped in the quarter. This is considerably slower than the 3.2 million PS4 shipments in the same quarter, inverting the trend from the previous quarter, in which the Switch shipped 430,000 consoles more than the rival.

When the holiday season kicks in, especially when the release of Super Smash Bros draws near, we expect the Nintendo Switch to be selling like hotcakes. Of course, we’re also expecting the PlayStation 4 to do well with a number of blockbuster games coming up such as Spider-Man.

Pokdepinion: Well, I own both consoles so I essentially contributed to those numbers. How about you?
