We’re getting another Call of Duty next year (the whole multi-year cadence claim really aged like milk), and this time it’s Treyarch returning to lead the production efforts. The studio is renowned for its Black Ops titles, spanning storylines all the way back to 2008’s release titled World At War.

According to an exclusive report by Windows Central, the upcoming yet-to-be-named title will be set in the Gulf War, chronologically after the events of Black Ops II (released in 2012) and Black Ops Cold War (released in 2020). Following the last release’s naming convention, the next title might be called Black Ops Gulf War.

Sources claim that the 2024 title will revolve around CIA, with clandestine operations being the main focus, unlike the boots-on-the-ground style in Modern Warfare series. For the uninitiated, the Gulf War is a major conflict that occurred in the early 1990s, with US-led multinational coalition leading the counteroffensive against Iraq’s Saddam Hussein after the latter’s invasion of Kuwait, its neighboring (and oil-rich) country. The plot is expected to “explore a nuanced narrative of the Gulf War, with a critical focus on different participants within the conflict”.

On another subject of pre-order bonuses, the outlet alleged that Activision is contemplating on the idea of larger pre-order bonuses, likely to help boost sales. It may provide several days of early access for the base game, and possibly weeks ahead for other game modes. As usual, Warzone will gets its usual tie-in by the time this game launches, which is likely in late 2024.
