2K and Gearbox Software have officially announced the release of Borderlands 4, the next installment in the looter-shooter franchise, scheduled for 2025 launch (the company specifies the launch window will be within Fiscal Year 2026). This means the launch date will fall in between April 1st until December 31 of 2025, though it might be launched earlier in the year to make way for GTA 6.

Borderlands 4 Unveiled

The announcement was made during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, where the teaser trailer briefly introduced players to a new planet. Borderlands 4 marks the fourth mainline title and seventh entry in the franchise, and players will continue taking on the role of a Vault Hunter to search of alien treasure and “blast everything” as they go.

15 years since the debut of the original title, the Borderlands franchise has sold over 87 million copies globally, and the upcoming title will be at most several months away from the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is developed by sister studio Rockstar Games (both studios are owned by publisher Take Two Interactive).

Borderlands 4 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (through Steam and Epic Games Store), and is now available for players to wishlist.

Pokdepinion: I’m more inclined to believe this will be launched early in 2025, because nobody really wants to compete with GTA 6 (not even Call of Duty could, honestly).
