HoYoverse has officially revealed Version 4.4 of Genshin Impact, titled “Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze,” set to go live on January 31. This update brings forth the Lantern Rite celebration in Liyue, accompanied by the expansion of the region northwestward into the all-new area known as Chenyu Vale. Players can anticipate receiving rewards such as 10+3 Intertwined Fates, a free Liyue four-star character, and a new outfit for Xingqiu.

The Lantern Rite, a highlight of this year’s festivities, introduces a vibrant kite theme, symbolizing prosperity for the new year, along with abundant rewards for players. Various events, mini-games, and redeemable items, including Xingqiu’s new outfit, will be featured. During the limited-time daily login event, players can claim up to 10 Intertwined Fates, and an additional 3 Intertwined Fates, along with 2 Fragile Resin, will be delivered through the in-game mailbox. Notably, Ganyu and Shenhe’s new outfits will be available at a discounted rate in the in-game store.

As part of the celebration, two new playable characters will join Genshin Impact: Xianyun, the Adeptus in human form, and Gaming, a Wushou dancer. Xianyun is a five-star Anemo catalyst wielder, who can enhance team mobility and provide healing. Meanwhile, the four-star Pyro character and Claymore user Gaming incorporates Wushou arts into combat. Version 4.4 Event Wishes in two phases will feature Xianyun, Gaming, Nahida’s rerun in the first phase, and Xiao and Yae Miko’s rerun in the latter phase.

Version 4.4 also unveils a new expansion of Liyue, named Chenyu Vale, featuring mist-shrouded hills, waterfalls, and villages with tales of the adepti. Qiaoying Village is known for adepti-taught tea cultivation, and Yilong Wharf serves as a vital trading nexus. Players can transform into a special carp, bestowed by the adepti, to explore previously inaccessible areas and encounter legendary beasts, including the boss enemy “Solitary Suanni.”

Two innovative technical features, Global Far Fog (GFF) and Gradient Tint Rock, are introduced to enhance the representation of Chenyu Vale with a ‘shan shui’ (山水) visual style. GFF dynamically adjusts mist and clouds based on altitude, terrain, and conditions, while Gradient Tint Rock adds varying colors to mountains based on height, visibility distance, textural characteristics, and structure. This new tech will be available full-fledged on PC and PlayStation, with mobile clients getting a simplified version to accommodate lower computing power.

HoYoverse is also hinting at a new Genshin Impact PS5 Slim Bundle that will be available in certain APAC regions, though no details have been provided yet. Watch this space!
