Everyone needs to wait a bit longer for GTA VI, as Rockstar has announced that it’ll push its launch date to 2026, from its original 2025 projected launch. The good news is, the announcement did give us a precise date to look forward to: May 26, 2026.

GTA VI Delayed

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026,” Rockstar stated in a short announcement. “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

It’s always good to err on the side of caution for the developers, as we have seen several cases of disastrously-launched titles following many years of pre-launch hype, with the two most notable cases being Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky (though both games’ reputation has since largely repaired). With over a decade passed since the last entry in the franchise, expectations will surely be at an all-time high.

Rockstar is famously known for its extremely well-built games in the past, and it’ll be 13 (thirteen!) years since GTA V’s launch when its successor eventually hits the new launch date by summer 2026. If the extra months can guarantee a smooth launch, I’m sure it’s well worth the wait; that being said though, the new launch date will only apply to console launches – specifically PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – so if you swear by PC Master Race, this date is not going to be relevant to you.

Pokdepinion: I do hope we get a date for PC launch soon (I’m guessing 2027 at this rate).
