AMD Navi GPU set to rival NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080?
AMD current flagship, the Radeon Vega 64 is still pretty far from what the NVIDIA RTX cards can deliver. However it seems that there is ray of home in the form of the AMD Navi architecture. Built on TSMC’s 7nm process, it has been hinted that it will offer performance on par with the GeForce RTX 2080.
That is a pretty huge leap, considering that Navi is only expected to replace Polaris in the mid-range. The upcoming cards based on the new architecture is also expected to be more surprisingly power efficient. The Navi cards are also expected to not support real-time raytracing. But if the raster performance is on par with the GeForce RTX 2080, that’s really big news!
Now we would take this with a healthy dose of salt, considering AMD has yet to deliver proper competition for NVIDIA’s high end graphics cards in a while. AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su is expected to be at CES 2019, revealing Zen 2 for consumers, so maybe that will be when we will get a first official glimpse at AMD Navi.
Pokdepinion: I really hope that Navi can deliver that without turning out more expensive than the GeForce RTX cards.
