ASUStek aims to increase its share in the smartphone market to 18 percent which equals to 5 million units by next year in Indonesia’s smartphone market.

In this year alone, ASUS has successfully shipped a total of 4 million units which is around 15 percent from the market. “Our goals is to overtake Samsung’s market share by 2017”, Jerry Shen, the Chief executive officer said in a ASUS smartphone event launch in Jakarta, last Thursday.

He add that ASUS will be able to gain top positions in the market because of their expertise in sales methods. With exponential growth in South East Asian markets, ASUS expects to ship a total of 10 million smartphones to Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Philippines in 2016.

Jerry Shen also aims to ship 30 million smartphones globally next year, a step up from this year’s estimate of 20 million units. With a total population of 250 million in Indonesia, a target of 5 million smartphones shouldn’t be that hard for ASUS to achieve.

The launch of the ASUS Zenfone 2 was delayed because of a government policy enacted in August which requires all 4G devices be manufactured locally. Xiaomi also had this problem with their Xiaomi Mi4i.

Pokdepinion: I am a member of a few ASUS Zenfone Indonesia groups and to be honest their community is amazingly supportive. ASUS provides longer support for their smartphones which might offer a certain appeal to consumers to get ASUS smartphones. For example the ASUS Padfone S which was launched with Android KitKat is set to receive the Android Marshmallow update.
