Drone Delivering Service Banned – Marijuana Involved!
Over in the United States, California, it’s been known that marijuana has been legalized there. Now state regulators over there are adopting distribution rules and a handful of weed-related laws ahead of a 1st of January deadline to begin issuing retail license. The issue here involves around drones delivering marijuana service.
From a business perspective, the legalization of marijuana in California is certainly seen as a business opportunity for the people there, including startup businesses and also established ones. Sure, a drone can already deliver pizza to the front of your doorstep (in California), despite that, the California Bureau of Cannabis Control has banned the delivery of marijuana by an autonomous vehicle. This includes whether by land or from the sky.
[blockquote cite=”California Bureau of Cannabis Control”]Transportation may not be done by aircraft, watercraft, rail, drones, human-powered vehicles, or unmanned vehicles. Deliveries may be made only in person by enclosed motor vehicle. Cannabis goods may not be visible to the public during deliveries. Cannabis goods may not be left in an unattended motor vehicle unless the vehicle has an active alarm system. Vehicles used for delivery must have a dedicated, active GPS device that enables the dispensary to identify the geographic location of the vehicle during delivery.[/blockquote]
These new rules certainly will have an impact on businesses who thought of doing their trade by drone service. There are seven other states in the USA that legalize recreational marijuana usage but seeing how it is down at California, don’t expect the rest to have a different outcome when it comes to drone delivery service (for marijuana) to take off anytime soon. Generally speaking, Federal Aviation rules state that aerial drones need to fly within the pilot’s line of sight, so they can’t cover much areas even if they tried. All we can say is, stick by the rules and you’ll be fine (no matter which part of the world you’re located at).
