MCMC to Discuss with TM on Streamyx / Unifi Broadband Plans

Recently, we reported about MCMC / SKMM making an official statement to show Malaysia that the Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP) is in effect, and also gave examples of major telcos adhering to the new policy. This was seen in the form of price cuts as well as speeds higher than anything we’ve seen before in the country.

However, we also noted that for TM, it seemed to focus more on Unifi Fibre plans and Streamyx / Unifi Broadband plans were noticeably absent.

Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo then chimed in on the matter via a Facebook post, as seen at the top of this post. In the post, he mentioned that there were no suggestions given with regards to Streamyx.

While TM previously did say that they will be improving speeds for their existing Streamyx users, it seems like it has gone quiet ever since. This is especially alarming for those who have no choice but to subscribe to it as they don’t have access to Unifi or other fibre internet plans.

Aside from that, Gobind Singh Deo also noted that despite the announced price cuts, there are still a good number of users who are still paying the older, more expensive price as well as those who have not received their upgrades yet. It appears that there will be added pressure from MCMC for telcos to speed up the process.

For now, it is being said that MCMC / Gobind will be meeting with telco representative to discuss on these issues in the near future.

Pokdepinion: It had to be said. Finally someone noticed that Streamyx was oddly missing in the whole MSAP matter. Hopefully, we’ll either see major speed upgrades or major price cuts coming soon on that side as well.
