Nintendo has revealed more details on the Nintendo Switch Online Service, including the different price plans, release window, and the features you can expect from it.

Nintendo Switch Online Service Launching Q3 2018 with 20 NES Games

The folks over at Nintendo has revealed some details on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch Online service. For those of you who aren’t aware, this is the their equivalent of the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live but it has their own spin to it.

For the Nintendo Switch Online Service, there are 5 main features being highlighted:

  • Online Play – Play games like Mario Tennis Aces, Splatoon 2, and more with other players across the world.
  • NES – Nintendo Switch Online – For the first time ever, play NES games online with other players on the internet.
  • Save Data Cloud Backup – You can backup your save files and access them easily through the service.
  • Nintendo Switch Online App – Enhance your gaming experience with compatible games with this smartphone app.
  • Special Offers – News and special deals specifically catered for subscribers of the service.

According to Nintendo, friends can watch each other play single player games online and essentially “pass the controller” at any time, thus letting your friends join in the fun. Every NES game that will be included now and in the future will support voice chat via the smartphone app.

It also has been announced that it will be launched with over 20 NES games available for the service. While we don’t know the full list at the time of this writing, there are 10 NES games that have been confirmed:

  • Donkey Kong
  • Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • Dr. Mario
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Super Mario Bros. 3

  • 3 Months – USD $7.99
  • 12 Months – USD $19.99
  • Family Membership (Up to 8 people in a single family group) – USD $34.99

The Nintendo Switch Online Service doesn’t have an exact release date but we do have a clear idea as to when it will be coming. It has been listed with a September 2018 release window. There are still some mysteries surrounding the service but we’re expected to hear more very soon, possibly during E3 2018.

Pokdepinion: I was a bit skeptical as to how they were going to approach this but seeing all of this, I think we’re in good hands. Can’t wait to see how it will actually perform as well as the complete details on it.
