OnePlus no longer seeds devices to third party ROM developers

Remember when the OnePlus One was launched with CyanogenMod? It was perhaps the first to release a device running CyanogenMod out of the factory. That excited a lot of enthusiasts who were into custom ROMs. OnePlus made their device an even sweeter deal for the flasholics by seeding their devices to custom ROM developers.

Unfortunately, both are no longer true for the brand. OnePlus has parted ways with CyanogenMod way back in 2015. And the seeding program has just officially been shuttered. So whatever that enticed enthusiasts to OnePlus is now gone. And they might very well lose their current crop of fans who are probably hooked onto the value proposition of OnePlus, which is also gradually diminishing.

OnePlus has charted a really prolific rise from a small company which couldn’t supply enough devices to meet demand, to a brand that can actually have so much stock that they need to slash prices to clear off excess inventory. It does appear that OnePlus has had massive success, but it seems like they have lost what brought them to where they are now.

Pokdepinion: I used to be interested in OnePlus devices. The OnePlus 6 was the last one I was mildly intrigued by. The OnePlus 6T feels like a thorough flop.
