SK Hynix invests in new chip facilities worth USD 38.9bn
SK Hynix is a big name from South Korea specializing in the memory chip business since it’s the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker and the world’s fifth-largest semiconductor company. You would commonly see their name emblazoned on computer DDR RAM or graphic card’s GDDR VRAM. Lets not forget SK Hynix co-developed the High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) standard with AMD.
Yesterday SK Hynix announced that they will be investing 46 trillion won (USD 38.9bn) for new chip production facilities in next 10 years. Actually the new chip facilities only make up a total of 15 trillion won but the remaining 31 trillion won is going to building two more chip manufacturing plants — one in Icheon and the other in the city of Cheongju.
SK Hynix missed the analysis’ estimate last year after it reported a 65 percent year-on-year increase in second-quarter net profit as slowing demand for PCs and smartphones dampened memory chip prices.

Pokdepinion : New chip facilities and two new plants, this could be a great hint since SK Hynix is a leading manufacturer for HBM memory. There’s a possibility but don’t quote me on this, I believe SK Hynix must be preparing something that would be legen….wait for it….dary after the new chip facilities is fully operational. Why would it be great? Because SK Hynix is partnering with AMD for HBM and SanDisk for NAND chips.
