TM to build New SEA-ME-WE 6 Submarine Cable System with Consortium
SEA-ME-WE 6: TM marks participation with various countries
Yesterday, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) announced that they will be apart of a consortium for the latest Southeast Asia – Middle East – Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE 6) submarine cable system. The system will connect Malaysia with other consortium members from multiple other countries namely Singapore, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan, Oman, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and France.
TM recently did a signing of the Construction and Maintenance Agreement (C&MA) with all the members in the consortium. With TM’s official participation in the consortium, the SEA-ME-WE 6 will join the list of the company’s investments in submarine cable systems including SEA-ME-WE 4, SEA-ME-WE 4, SEA-ME-WE 5 as well as other numerous international cable routes worldwide.
SEA-ME-WE 6 is TM’s latest investment to connect with the world
According to a statement by TM Group Chief Executive Officer Imri Mokhtar, TM’s investment efforts is instrumental in establishing Malaysia as a regional digital hub and enables global technology players to deliver innovative digital services to the country.
The SEA-ME-WE 6 will provide TM with one of the lowest latency routes between Malaysia and Europe with its’ open cable system concept and design capacity of more than 100Tbps which will supply the consortium members complete control over their traffic management. It will also allow the company to support the deployment of hyperscalers’ data centres as well as the future requirements of 5G network in the country.
The SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable will land at TM’s new cable landing station in Morib, which is the company’s latest addition to their existing four international cable landing stations in the country. Imri notes that the strategic proximity to Klang Valley makes it a key cable landing site in Malaysia.
