Unboxing and Walkaround of the 1TB ADATA SC750 External SSD

Starting off our 1TB ADATA SC750 review with the unboxing, the packaging is straightforward as it’s a purplish-pink box with a lot of the product’s details listed on it. I can’t believe they managed to fit in so much information on the box itself, which is a shame since most people would just avoid reading it except for the front. From here, we can surmise that it also works on Windows PCs, Macs, Android, iOS, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S. Personally, I’m a bigger their SE800’s packaging design, clad in black, but what matters the most is what’s inside.

And we only found the ADATA SC750 inside. To my understanding, there is supposed to be a user guide inside the box but we found none inside, at least for our unit.

The ADATA SC750 itself is simplistic in nature as it’s a pretty compact external storage device. It’s practically about twice as wide as an ordinary pendrive but doesn’t take up that much more space, in case that’s something you’re worried about. The USB-C connector is retractable, which is great for making it more portable but I do worry about the mechanism’s longevity. Since they were doing retractable connectors, it does make me wish they included USB-A as well for maximum convenience but hey, at least this doesn’t require a cable.

Performance

CrystalDiskMark

For an external SSD, these are pretty decent speeds and it matches up with ADATA’s claims of max sequential read / write speeds of 1,050MB/s / 1000MB/s. It reminds me of the old days of using SATA-based SSDs as the higher end ones from that era could reach around these speeds so to think of that being compressed to what is essentially a pendrive size is amazing.

AS SSD Benchmark

We get a somewhat similar pattern from the ADATA SC750 in the AS SSD Benchmark, recording 979.61MB/s read and 896.31MB/s write. Write speeds here seemingly tanked by about 100MB/s compared to before but it’s still within reasonable levels so I doubt anyone would complain given the company’s official speed claims on this.

Anvil’s Storage Utilities

Anvil’s Storage Utilities shows slightly slower performance for the ADATA SC750, recording just 963.76MB/s and 861.95MB/s in read and write speeds. Once again, it’s still within reasonable levels despite the drop so this is perfectly fine.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

ATTO Disk Benchmarks shows us that the ADATA SC750 maxes out at around 1,006.39MB/s read, falling off slightly at the 48MB and 64MB blocks; meanwhile, write speeds maxes out at 943.49MB/s, with peak speeds being reached starting from the 512KB block sizes, though it does reach very close at the 256KB block sizes which is great.

Write Endurance (AIDA64)

The drive fill test shows a rather solid performance for the ADATA SC750 at first, as it managed to mostly sustain around the 800 to 900 MB/s mark until it’s about 20% full, and then it slows down to about 60MB/s at the later phases of the process until the end. 60MB/s is still good enough when you consider that this is the slowest speed we got from it but if you expected it to always stick close to its maximum value, that won’t be possible here just like most storage devices.

Value

It’s not exactly fair to pit this against conventional, internal SSD storage solutions but it is kind of eye opening. I’m sure a lot of you would automatically think that an external SSD would automatically be pricier than its internal counterparts but as it turns out, it competes surprisingly well from a value standpoint. The cost per GB sits between the 1TB ADATA LEGEND 960 MAX and the 2TB PNY CS2142, but it’s worth noting that these two SSDs are much faster by factors of about four to sevenfold. Whether you prioritize performance or convenience, you definitely have options that won’t cost a bomb.

1TB ADATA SC750 Verdict

The 1TB ADATA SC750 is a useful, speedy external storage solution provided you have a use for its speed. If you need something to help back up your mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops, this will be a great solution that can also help speed up the process.

If you simply want to maximize storage and don’t care much about speeds, then you’d be better off with an external HDD as, for its retail price of RM469, can easily get you a 5TB one. It’s worth noting that you can get the 1TB ADATA SC750 for around RM300 if you look around a bit online. At the end of our 1TB ADATA SC750 review, I award this external SSD with our Silver Pokdeward.
