[CES 2024] Samsung Presents Its Vision Of AI-Powered Future With AI Enhancements To Its Products
Samsung Presents Its Vision Of AI-Powered Future With AI Enhancements To Its Products
Samsung believes that AI is capable of enhancing user experiences – at the “AI for All” event at CES 2024, Jong-Hee Han, CEO of Samsung’s Device eXperience Division, emphasized AI’s role in connecting technologies seamlessly “in the background”, enhancing simplicity and utility. The presentation showcased various products and services utilizing AI to improve quality of life. “With the emergence of artificial intelligence, smarter, better experiences will redefine how we live,” Han said.
The CES press conference featured Jonathan Gabrio (Head of Connected Experience Center at Samsung Electronics America) discussing how AI transforms audiovisual products and digital appliances. One example is the Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN900D – which utilizes its NQ8 AI Gen 3 processor to upscale content to 8K, enhance motion, and optimize audio. On the accessibility front, the TV also includes sign language and audio subtitle options for those with low vision capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Premiere 8K projector – claimed to be the world’s first wireless 8K projector – offers a cinema-like experience at home with its 150-inch display; while the Music Frame speaker, which looks like a photo frame on the outside, which you can put a customizable cover on, integrates with Samsung TVs and soundbars through the Q-Symphony feature.
Ballie, Samsung’s AI robot first showcased at CES 2020, has since been upgraded, interacting with smart devices to offer customized services. Samsung also introduced the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+, providing AI-driven food recognition and expiration alerts; the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo personalizes laundry management, and the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo robot cleaner employs AI Object Recognition for efficient cleaning.
Jaeyeon Jung, Samsung EVP and Head of SmartThings division, emphasized spatial AI’s role in personalized home management. SmartThings uses LiDAR through IoT devices like robot vacuum cleaners to create digital floor plans, while Bixby’s enhanced AI capabilities enable dynamic smart home interactions, and routing commands based on user location and activities. The Samsung Daily+ service on TVs serves as a central hub for smart home functionality.
Samsung has also announced a partnership with Korean automotive giant Hyundai through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), allowing Home-to-Car and Car-to-Home services via SmartThings connectivity – users can remotely control car functions and home devices simply through voice commands. The collaboration with HARMAN introduces technologies like Ready Care for driver safety and Ready Vision for intuitive windshield displays.
On the security front, Samsung has long introduced its Knox security platform which comes standard in all Galaxy smartphones. Samsung is bringing a new solution in the form of Samsung Knox Matrix, offering end-to-end encryption across its Galaxy and smart TVs, which allows devices to monitor each other and isolate threats. Knox Vault, a feature for Galaxy devices that keeps files locked in a heavily protected part of storage, is now expanded into smart TVs like the Neo QLED 8K series.
Continuing the company’s sustainability efforts, the company promotes a more circular economy that includes a tighter incorporation of recycled materials into its products – the company has since introduced various refurbishment, recycling, and upcycling programs in select regions. AI-driven features like SmartThings AI Energy Mode aim to optimize energy usage to help users save on power usage (and bills).
Collaborating with Tesla, SmartThings Energy integrates with Tesla’s power solutions, including the Powerwall, Solar Inverter, and Wall Connector EV chargers. Samsung says SmartThings Energy users can benefit from Tesla’s “Storm Watch” function, which notifies users of incoming severe weather events to prepare for potential power outage events. In such an event, SmartThings can anticipate it by activating AI Energy Mode extending the usage time from their Tesla Powerwalls’ backup power.
