AMD Launches Ryzen 7 8700F & Ryzen 5 8400F, iGPU Not Included

AMD’s desktop processors have traditionally lacked onboard graphics, and this is evident looking at the Socket AM4 processors released since 2017. However, it’s the other way round for Socket AM5: all processors come with onboard graphics – short for the Ryzen 5 7500F – and the two models introduced today will join the lineup of AM5 Ryzens with onboard graphics not present.

The Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F, an 8-core and 6-core processor respectively, lack onboard graphics like you’ll usually find in all Socket AM5 processors. Hence, a discrete graphics card is required – in exchange, you do get a significantly lower price tag compared to its standard counterpart, the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G. Based on the same Zen4 “Phoenix” architecture, the Ryzen 8000F series is likely a repurposed binned-down silicon that didn’t meet the frequency targets to become the Ryzen 8000G chips.

Despite the lack of onboard graphics, the Ryzen AI found on some Phoenix-based chips remain – at least for the Ryzen 7 model. The Ryzen 5 8400F loses NPU on top of iGPU, so AI-assisted features like webcam background blur will not be natively supported via this chip. Both chips will come included with a Wraith Stealth stock cooler by default, which will cool the 65W chips with no issues.

AMD says the global retail MSRP for the Ryzen 7 8700F is $269 (~RM1,262), which is significantly cheaper than the $329 Ryzen 7 8700G. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 8400F is priced at $169 (~RM793), making it the cheapest Socket AM5 processor available today.
