AMD Ryzen 4000 desktop processors expected to be released in September 2020

The AMD Ryzen 3000 series were announced in May at Computex 2019, and was offered on the market starting July. This year, the AMD Ryzen 4000 series was also expected to follow a similar timeline, but since Computex 2020 is delayed to September, the launch of the 4th Gen AMD Ryzen processors might follow suit.

On the upside, it might mean that AMD will be able to start selling the 4th Gen AMD Ryzen processors soon after the launch. AMD is expected to unveil the Zen 3 architecture with the AMD Ryzen 4000 desktop processors, with the processors based on an enhanced TSMC 7nm process.

Enthusiasts are also hoping that the AMD Ryzen 4000 desktop processors will still work on the AMD AM4 socket, with it slated to be the last generation of AMD Ryzen processors supported by the socket. It should also be accompanied by the 600-series chipset, but going by AMD’s tradition, you can probably expect older boards to work just fine, albeit with some features missing.

I sure hope so, as I do plan on replacing my AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with a AMD Ryzen 4000 series desktop processor when those launch. Well, just a short wait until September.

Aside from the upcoming AMD CPUs, AMD is also expected to unveil the RDNA 2 graphics cards at Computex 2020. The Navi 2X GPUs are expected to bring hardware raytracing, letting AMD fight NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX cards on more equal footing.
