A new chip has emerged which appears to continue serving AMD’s long-running Socket AM4 platform – per EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) filing submitted earlier this month, the chipmaker has a new processor in the form of Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which is likely to slot below the 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X3D.

So what exactly is this chip? We can make a few educated guesses: for one, the naming suggests that it should feature 6 cores albeit with lower clock speeds compared to the 5600X3D. The latter only saw limited release in American PC retail giant Micro Center, which likely is the result of the low volume produced by ‘defective’ chips that originally was intended to serve as Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

So, should this model ever be launched, don’t expect to be able to get it anywhere in the world. The 5500X3D may see the same limited release as it may be a further down-binned version of the cache-laden processor.

As Videocardz pointed out, there were mentions of the Ryzen 5 5500X3D back in November 2023 (alongside Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which eventually launched), and leaks at the time (courtesy of @g01d3nm4ng0 aka ‘chi11eddog’ on X/Twitter) claimed that this chip comes with 6 cores, 4.0GHz boost clock, 3.0GHz base clock, and the same 96MB L3 cache that makes it extremely performant in gaming workloads.

Pokdepinion: It’s incredible just how long AM4 has continued to serve the market with new models after 8 years.
