With Intel potentially gearing up for the formal reveal of Panther Lake CPUs – as we’re officially into the tenth month of the year – there are some interesting rumors swirling around within the tech community. Leaker HXL (@9550pro) on X/Twitter has revealed that the chipmaker will invent a new branding called “Core Ultra X” alongside existing Core Ultra naming.
Intel Core Ultra X
The new naming simply prepends the letter ‘X’ before the tier number, which means Core Ultra X5/X7/X9; the exact nature of this differentiation is still unclear at this point. Rumors suggest that this new lineup will launch alongside Panther Lake (Core Ultra 300 series), which is expected to be revealed on October 9 – the embargo date for the recent Intel Tech Tour event in the US.
In fact, several models with such nomenclature has been leaked: the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H – according to this leak from ex-ITHome staff – will likely feature 4 P-cores, 8 E-cores, 4 low-power E-cores (totaling 16 CPU cores in three clusters), and 12 Xe3-based GPU cores. While there was this leak that suggests the likes of Core Ultra X9 388H and Core Ultra X7 368H, the information seems very likely to be AI-generated speculation, so it’s better to rule those out before more concrete evidence comes in.

If the new lineup is indeed days away from formal announcement, there is a good chance more information will emerge right before the said event; we should be able to see more information on this rather mysterious naming pretty soon if October 9 is indeed the date for Panther Lake’s reveal.

Pokdepinion: For now, I have no idea what this letter is supposed to mean. Could be as pointless as ‘AI’ in Ryzen AI 300 for all we know.
