Qualcomm Snapdragon X Lineup Revealed With At Least 8 SKUs
For years, Qualcomm’s presence on the Windows PC market has been minimal – it merely occupies a small corner of the market where Intel and AMD have long dominated for decades. However, as the transition to ARM-based laptops began to pick up steam, the company’s grand entrance to the PC market in the form of the Snapdragon X series has garnered some hype, and now the lineup has been leaked via display driver entries.
What’s the deal with the Snapdragon X series, you might ask? Think of it as Windows’ “M1” moment – Apple’s M-series chips have given its devices a significant leg up in efficiency compared to Windows counterparts, and Qualcomm’s ARM-based chips are looking to close the gap, if not outright surpass it. The Oryon CPU, which originated from Nuvia (later acquired by Qualcomm), is said to be competitive against Apple’s best offerings.
A total of eight SKUs have been revealed via a display driver entry, and it consists of the following models:
- Snapdragon X Elite X1E84100
- Snapdragon X Elite X1E80100
- Snapdragon X Elite X1E78100
- Snapdragon X Elite X1E76100
- Snapdragon X Plus X1P64100
- Snapdragon X Plus X1P62100
- Snapdragon X Plus X1P56100
- Snapdragon X Plus X1P40100
Admittedly, the model names are quite a bit mouthful if that’s the model name they’re sticking on the retail product. Suppose we decode the numbers with some educated guesses – in that case, the first digit following the E/P letter should indicate its performance tier like its smartphone counterparts, which ranges from 4 (low-end) to 8 (flagship). This is further differentiated via the “X Elite” and “X Plus” moniker, which likely mimics Intel’s “Core Ultra” and “Core” designations.
Of the eight SKUs, only one of them contains specs: the X1E80100 is said to feature 12 cores with a core configuration of 8P+4E, and featuring a maximum clock speed of 4.3GHz. That aside, the Snapdragon X series as a whole will see some new and faster technologies, including the new Hexagon NPU that is said to outclass the current offerings from both sides of the laptop realm, as well as the even faster LPDDR5X-8533 memory support.
