Extreme Overclocked Core i9-14900K Pushes CS2 To Hit 1,310FPS
Intel’s latest Core i9 processor, the 14900K, has been grabbing headlines left and right (as well as records). This next record that Intel has recently achieved is a bit less conventional – though by no means less impressive. The Core i9, at a staggering 8.0GHz sustained overclock, pushes the popular FPS title Counter-Strike 2 to generate a ridiculous 1,310 frames per second.
This feat is performed by the Team.AU overclocking team at Australia’s SXSW Sydney 2023 event, which involves the Core i9 with constant stream of LN2 (liquid nitrogen) cooling, 7.5 – 8.0 GHz overclock, a GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS Tachyon X motherboard. It’s worth noting that the same model has recently achieved the all-time overclocking record at 9.04GHz, which is barely sustainable past mere seconds.
Sustaining the chip at such a high clockspeed, even at LN2-cooled conditions, provides ample opportunity for games like Counter-Strike 2 to really stretch its legs. The game was seen running on average between 900FPS to 1,300FPS, and at one point managed to hit 1,310 FPS. Imagine how loud the GPU coil while gets at that point.
Aside from that, the same team has also broke all-time DDR5 overclocking record courtesy of GIGABYTE’s DDR5-8333 16GB module, which achieved DDR5-11618 – though the system is clearly on the knife’s edge at this point, with one prior attempt ended up and blue screens. Luckily, the team managed to successfully verify the new world record, and the PC promptly crashes right away once the record is confirmed.

Pokdepinion: Quite unbelievable to have CPUs even stay at clockspeeds this high without crashing right away.
