New CPU, New World Record: Intel Core i9-14900KF Reaches 9.04GHz
Last year, Intel’s Core i9-13900K broke a decade-long overclocking record occupied by AMD’s FX-8350, and for the first time ever, breached the 9GHz barrier in the process. As the direct successor of that chip, the Core i9-14900K(F) has naturally become the next in line to break the world record once again – and break they did.
This world record attempt comes courtesy of ASUS’s own ROG OC team, with overclockers such as SkatterBencher, Elmor, Shamino and Bing collaborating to push the new Core i9-14900KF to its absolute limits. The motherboard of choice happens to be the successor of the Z790 APEX used in the original 9GHz attempt, the Z790 APEX Encore. The team has opted for liquid helium (LHe) instead of LN2, which is extremely cold at -268°C – just 5 degrees above absolute zero (-273°C).
According to first-party results, the CPU was seen achieving 9.1GHz – however, upon validation by CPU-Z the actual (validated) clockspeed is 9043.92MHz. Interestingly, the developers of this tool has noted some manipulation of the tool has occurred to inflate results. That has since been addressed, and it meant the validated 9.04GHz run is now officially the new world record.
