Samsung is introducing two of its latest Odyssey OLED gaming monitors in the form of Odyssey G8 (G80SD) and Odyssey G6 (G60SD), featuring 4K 240Hz and QHD 360Hz respectively.
Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD)

Starting with the bigger brother, the Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) sports a 32-inch 4K OLED panel with 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms pixel response time, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certification. However, the maximum panel brightness is rated at just 250 nits, so it may struggle on brighter environments – though the inclusion of anti-glare panel (Samsung says it’s 54% less glossy than conventional anti-glare film) should help with that.
The chassis has been slimmed down considerably as well, and Samsung has made improvements in panel cooling by installing heat pipes to spread out the heat (remember, heat is the enemy of OLED panels). It claims that this diffuses heat 5x better than the graphite sheet approach. This is part of the Samsung OLED Safeguard+ toolkit that the monitor can use to prevent burn-in, and it also includes brightness reduction if hotspots or static images are detected on a certain part of the screen.
The G8 also got some features straight from its TV siblings: the monitor comes built-in with Smart TV apps and the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor responsible for image upscaling (plus a remote control). This chip enables features like AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Active Voice Amplifier Pro, though it’s only available for Smart TV apps only.
Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD)

Moving on to the smaller model, the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD) comes in the form of a 27-inch QHD OLED panel with 360Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms response time, 250 nits brightness (with the same anti-glare panel as the G8), 99% DCI-P3 gamut coverage, and the same AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certification. This model also lacks the Smart TV features and it jettisons away the NQ8 chip, making this strictly a gaming monitor.
Availability & Pricing
Both monitors are now available for purchase, with the Odyssey G8 priced at RM5,999, whereas the Odyssey G6 will set you back for RM3,999. Courtesy of local distributor SunCycle, customers can purchase either models (in addition to the existing Odyssey G8 G85SB and Odyssey G9 G93SC) to claim a free Keychron Q1 mechanical keyboard (worth RM799) starting now until 18th July 2024, while stocks last.
