AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Thermal Issues Likely Due To Faulty Batch

After numerous reports of AMD’s flagship GPU having VRAM overheating issues – investigations has since began among the tech community and AMD themselves. Igor Wallossek (of Igor’sLAB) cited from a board partner which points to a possible faulty batch of the card. The initial findings was first published by Roman “Der8auer” Hartung which has determined it could likely be an issue with the vapor chamber itself:

Shortly after, Igor has shared some information from an undisclosed board partner – they suspect it may be a defective batch of 7900 XTX that came out of the production line with insufficient amounts of liquid contained in the vapor chamber in order to function correctly. In a typical phase-change cooling system such as heat pipes and vapor chambers, a “dry-out” effect can occur when exposed to too much heat in relation to the amounts of liquid contained inside the system, which degrades cooling performance.

He also decided not to spoil der8auer’s new findings – which is expected to go live tomorrow that should provide more insight on the matter. This is still a developing story – AMD has yet to publish their investigation results and the number of potentially affected users at the time of this writing.
