The AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE is the lesser-known model of the RDNA 4 lineup, owing mostly to its limited regional availability; but it looks like the GPU maker is spinning a second model after the 12GB model, which is already available in China.

This information comes from Board Channels forum (via Videocardz), so take these information with a pinch of salt. Rumor goes that AMD will upgrade the GPU’s memory capacity “to meet market demand”; although the wording didn’t explicitly confirm the newly-upgraded variant will pack 16GB of VRAM. In theory, 24GB VRAM is possible given that this doesn’t require significant modifications on the silicon level, as it can share the same memory bus as the current 12GB model.

Still, AMD may go out of their way and redesign the silicon to adapt to a wider memory bus just to avoid jeopardizing its more powerful models, both of which feature 16GB of GDDR6 memory. If this is the path the chipmaker chose to take, this means the new RX 9070 GRE variant should also see a minor speed boost in the form of higher memory bandwidth. We can’t also rule out the possibility of using a slightly different Navi 48 silicon with more cores than the 12GB model.

In any case, the rumor claims that such card will be officially launched “between September and October”, and we’re only merely days away from reaching the ninth month of 2025. Will this be the model that ultimately sees global release? Time will tell.

Pokdepinion: More VRAM is always welcomed.
