EDIT 25/6 00:35 – We corrected this article to better reflect the facts as presented in the Gamers Nexus video.
You might have heard of KINGPIN a.k.a. Vince Lucido, one of the best-known overclockers in the world who has also transferred his know-how into GPUs like the EVGA KINGPIN Edition cards. However, EVGA has since closed down its GPU business, and Lucido have to go elsewhere – but now he might have a new place to call home.
KINGPIN Teaming Up With PNY?
The brand mentioned here is PNY, another GPU AIB responsible for NVIDIA’s GeForce and workstation cards. However, as mentioned in the discussion with Steve from Gamers Nexus (took place in Taiwan while Computex was ongoing), he initially approached MSI for opportunities, but the company has decided to decline the offer as it takes a different marketing approach for its GPUs.
PNY, however, has a history of relatively sedate lineup of GPUs, so a KINGPIN special is a perfect choice for the most enthusiastic of owners. It’s a gap left by EVGA when they exited the GPU business, and PNY might be that company to fill it. “[PNY] are known for their professional cards and the daily cards but there’s a huge hole in the enthusiast market from EVGA being gone, and it doesn’t seem like other vendors are too keen to fill it,” Lucido said.
Lucido has recently acquired a special BIOS which allows him to work on extreme overclocking conditions. As for when the eventual product will come to be, it’s reasonable to guess he is working on a special KINGPIN variant for the flagship RTX 50 series GPU, and he has gone on the record to say it’ll feature the signature black-copper color from all the EVGA KINGPIN edition cards that came before it.
