Meet ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme and ROG Crosshair X870E Apex motherboards, both sitting at the very top of ROG’s AMD-based motherboard echelon. These new additions join the existing Crosshair X870E Hero to complete the flagship Crosshair lineup powering Ryzen processors.
New ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Series Motherboards

The new flagship ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme features a 20+2+2 power stage configuration for its VRMs with large heatsinks to keep thermals under control – if the Hero model that we tested before is anything to go by, this setup will certainly be overkill (just like the Intel-based ROG Maximus Z890 Extreme, there’s also an additional screen slapped on top for good measure).
For I/O, it includes dual USB4 ports, 10GbE + 5GbE LAN ports and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities; but it’s the overclocking features and designs that these models are ultimately known for. For that, it gets the new NitroPath DRAM technology to boost memory overclocking, along with the usual LN2 mode, onboard buttons, Core Flex, Dynamic OC Switcher, and the new AI Cache Boost to facilitate overclocking runs.

For full-blown overclocking-specific motherboard, there’s the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex with RAM slots cut in half to reduce electrical interference caused by a typical 4-DIMM setup (even when unplugged). Its VRM is an 18+2+2 power phase setup with integrated L-shaped heatsinks and metal backplate for improved heat dissipation and additional structural rigidity.
ASUS says both the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme and Crosshair X870E Apex motherboards will be available in Malaysia by the end of May 2025, though pricing is unannounced at this time.
