ASUS recently introduced the new ROG Strix Platinum PSU series, available in 1200W, 1000W, and 850W versions. The company says the new lineup offers lower connection temperatures, intelligent wattage delivery, and compatibility with ATX 3.1, alongside a 10-year warranty.

The headlining feature is the GPU-First intelligent voltage stabilizer (IVS), which keeps the power stabilized for overclocked GPUs that can be especially sensitive to voltages. This should help deal with GPUs with sub-optimal power spike characteristics, which can cause a system shutdown when a heavy workload is suddenly introduced. ASUS says IVS provides 45% more stable flow to the GPU compared to without, though it noted that users can disconnect the dedicated IVS cable if CPU voltage sensing is preferred.
Its 80 PLUS Platinum certification comes courtesy of gallium nitride (GaN) MOSFETs featuring up to 30% better power efficiency over previous models. As a result, the less demanding cooling requirements resulted in less than 20 dB of noise at maximum (for the 1000W model), which earns itself a Cybernetics A+ Lambda certification. ASUS quotes 89% power efficiency at minimum.
Additionally, ASUS says the ROG Strix Platinum series will feature gray-colored CPU (EPS 8-pin) connectors for easy identification; and the cables themselves are certified to meet UL758 and UL1581 flame test standards. Expect the lineup to launch in Malaysia around mid-October, the company says – though pricing hasn’t been listed thus far.
Pokdepinion: Might be useful when dealing with NVIDIA’s RTX 30 series which gained a bit of infamy with its rather unstable power spikes.
