Apple has announced that the latest update for its operating systems are now available to download. This year’s release also features Apple Intelligence, Cupertino’s answer to the industry’s shift towards AI by adding AI-enhanced functionality to supported devices – though this will be a limited rollout in beta starting next month.
iOS 18
iOS 18 offers new personalization options for the Home Screen and Control Center, a redesigned Photos app, and updates to Messages and Mail. The update also includes improved privacy tools, a new Passwords app, and support for RCS messaging; Safari and Apple Pay also receive enhancements. Next month will see the launch of Apple Intelligence (as beta in iOS 18.1 update) on select models, which aims to bring advanced features like improved photo searches and Siri functionalities. iOS 18 is available now for iPhone Xs and later, with additional features coming in future updates.
iPadOS 18
iPadOS 18, meanwhile, will feature new tools like Calculator with Math Notes for solving equations using Apple Pencil and Smart Script for editing handwritten notes. The update also introduces customization options for the Home Screen and Control Center, an improved Photos app, and enhanced messaging features; privacy controls now allow users to lock or hide apps. Supported models include iPad Pro (M4), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later), iPad Air (M2), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (7th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later).
macOS Sequoia
macOS Sequoia will also see new features like iPhone Mirroring – which allows users to access and control their iPhone directly from their Mac – and major updates to Safari, introducing a new Highlights feature and Distraction Control. The update also introduces a new Passwords app and enhanced video conferencing tools with custom backgrounds and presenter preview; other updates include scheduled messaging in Messages, Math Notes in the Notes app, and enhanced topographic maps in the Maps app (though this is limited to US and Japan, for now).
