CelcomDigi’s NIM Program “Ahead Of Schedule”, Now 44% Complete
CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) has completed 44% of its nationwide network integration and modernization (NIM) program, ahead of schedule in its three-year plan since the merger. As of April 2024, over 7,200 sites have been modernized, improving download speeds by 20-26% and signal strength by 13-16%. By June, they aim to reach 50% completion in four states and 60% in three additional states.
This upgrade started in June 2023 with an RM4 billion capital expenditure (CAPEX) investment and aims to bring CelcomDigi as the leader among network operators with 18,000 5G-ready sites. So far, 86% of the company’s end-state sites are 5G-ready – for reference, its 4G LTE and 4G TLE-Advanced network covers 96.8% and 92.1% of the country respectively. The modernization efforts will also include upgrading the 5G Core Network to deliver 5G-Advanced (5.5G) functionality.
CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said: “We are working with strategic partners to trial 5.5G technologies and new use cases for enhanced digital experiences for Malaysian enterprises and consumers. This is a significant development for us and the industry, and we are excited to lead the way to realize the potential of our shared digital future.”
