Maxis is finally making their VoWiFi (Voice Over Wi-Fi) feature but it’s not going to be available for everyone. For now, it’s going to be available for postpaid and Hotlink customers but even then, Wi-Fi Calling will only be available for selected devices. In fact, looking at the official Maxis FAQ page listed that VoWiFi is available for selected Android devices with no mention of any specifics.

From what we understand thus far, the feature is available on some of the latest flagships around, like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra but in the case of the Apple iPhone, there is apparently a need to wait for Apple to enable the feature first. If you suddenly see the feature available on your iPhone, then it should start rolling out for other people as well.

As of right now, a number of telcos are already offering VoWiFi, such as U Mobile in 2016 and Digi in 2017. This means Celcom is the only major player left in the country that has yet to enable the feature. We will report more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.

Pokdepinion: This will be very useful, especially in areas where Wi-Fi reception is much better than the mobile network coverage. Hopefully this will be a standard feature for everyone to use in 2022.
