As many of you might have noticed, the publisher for Genshin Impact has changed from miHoYo to Cognosphere. This led to many gamers wondering what is happening, which unfortunately sparked the rumors of the game shutting down soon. Is there any truth to the matter, especially since some YouTubers are making videos claiming that?

Unsurprisingly, the answer is no. The reason for the change is said to be due to the integration of various payment methods on Epic Games Store. According to miHoYo, “with more entities engaged, the publisher of Genshin Impact on Epic Games Store has been updated to COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD.”

It’s not a new thing for developer to change publishers in order to bypass certain restrictions within their own country. There are a number of potential reasons, as broken down by Reddit user, u/Yamusauce, which you can check out right below here:

  • The reason Genshin changed their publisher was to avoid possible restrictions from the Chinese government.
  • Mihoyo didn’t make an announcement because they want to keep quiet and avoid conflict with the CCP.
  • The entire company is moving to Singapore because the CCP is planning to take action against Mihoyo.
  • Now the devs will have more freedom in making characters and lore, we will have better content.
  • Now we will get more freemogems and events.

Genshin Impact is currently available for free on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, and PC. A Nintendo Switch port of the game coming in the near future. Update 2.4 is expected to launch sometime in early January 2022 for all available platforms.

Pokdepinion: As publishers / developers start to expand, it’s quite normal for this to happen. It makes sound business sense to do this and it’s no cause for alarm, so don’t worry, the game is here to stay.
