U Mobile has announced the availability of SIM-based Phone Number Verification (PNV) through its ULTRA5G network, in partnership with Telenor Linx. The partnership also extends the PNV service to developers using Google Firebase, and app developers building on Firebase can tap into U Mobile’s network verification capabilities directly.

U Mobile Introduces SIM-Based Phone Number Verification

The verification service allows digital platforms and service providers to authenticate users without requiring them to manually enter an SMS One-Time Password (OTP), streamlining registration, login, and identity verification processes while reinforcing fraud prevention.

Traditional SMS OTP-based authentication requires users to wait for a message and manually key in a code, introducing friction, and more importantly, exposes potential security vulnerabilities. SIM-based PNV replaces this by authenticating users directly through the mobile network, leveraging the SIM card as a trusted identity anchor; supported services can verify a user’s phone number silently and automatically in the background.

“The collaboration expands the reach of U Mobile’s SIM-based PNV service across a wider range of digital applications and authentication journeys, enabling U Mobile to address the growing demand for SIM-based authentication from businesses, developers and digital service providers,” the telco said in its press release.

Businesses and digital service providers interested in the Phone Number Verification feature can visit U Business for more information.
