NVIDIA has announced that Perplexity’s Portable Computer – the AI company’s localized version of Perplexity Computer agent – is now available on Windows PCs equipped with NVIDIA RTX GPUs, following its existing support for NVIDIA DGX Spark systems and RTX-powered systems running Linux.
Portable Computer Now On Windows
Like all agentic AIs, Portable Computer is designed to plan and carry out multistep tasks, and in this case, directly on a device. The tool uses local AI models (courtesy of NVIDIA RTX GPUs) to analyze data, consolidate information across files, and handle recurring tasks, with sensitive information kept on-device, no cloud credits required. That said, users retain the option to route work to cloud-based models for more advanced research and reasoning tasks.
Portable Computer brings local and cloud AI together in a single UI, allowing users to work with sensitive files on their PCs while accessing Computer’s built-in tools, including a browser and the company’s proprietary SPACE sandbox environment. For tasks requiring more advanced reasoning, Portable Computer can identify when cloud support is needed and will ask for user permission before sending any information off-device.
Setup is simplified through a local model, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, which has been post-trained for compatibility with Perplexity Computer and optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs. Users can get things going right away, and for more seasoned users, the AI agent also includes connectors for Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and GitHub as well.
Portable Computer is available now for NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB or more of VRAM. NVIDIA also confirmed that support for NVIDIA DGX Station systems is expected to follow in the near future.
