We all don’t like resource hogs on our PCs, and Google understands that. The search engine giant is currently testing a feature in its experimental Chrome Canary build, which alerts the user when a specific tab is using too many system resources.
New Chrome Feature: Performance Issue Alert

The feature is called Performance Issue Alert, which presents itself as a small pop-up window on the top-right of the screen to alert users of any offending tabs. When presented, users have the choice to fix – which disables the tab to free up resources – or dismiss the message if deemed unnecessary. However, this will only be triggered when a tab reaches a CPU usage threshold, though Chrome currently offers a manual switch to override the threshold if needed.
To enable the override, users are required to enable “Enable performance intervention demo mode” flag via chrome://flags, restart the browser, then enable Performance Issue Alert under browser settings. Once enabled, go to chrome://discards to manually trigger the feature. From this point on, this will force the feature to show a notification, which you can use to free up memory space immediately.
Note that this is still an experimental feature, which means you likely won’t see it on the current version of Chrome that currently runs on your PC. In any case, expect wider rollout of the feature at a later point in time, though no timeline has been mentioned.
